As many of us head off to escape from the daily grind for a few weeks, it seemed like a good moment to take a breather (ahem!) and pull together a few of the important strands of air quality issues which are happening both locally, and globally.
Action campaigns are now gathering strength globally, as citizens and governments alike begin to realise the catastrophic public health emergency going on in many of our cities and beyond. So the positive news is that public awareness is really starting to bite. A few to note are:
The AirWeShare campaign, led by Hubbub in conjunction with the experts at Kings College London, who presented on 19th July at the APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) in the UK. They have recently undertaken a great piece of research, fitting a broad spectrum of Londoners with air quality monitors as they went about their daily lives. The results are sobering, thought-provoking and also critical in helping us all realise that there are things we can do to improve our own, personal air quality.
